Why Knot Massage

"Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are."

-Ancient Chinese Proverb

Whether we like it or not our lives are becoming increasingly busy with family, work, fitness and social activities all demanding our time. Modern conveniences mean that we can schedule more of these activities into our days, but this can also lead to increased stress, fatigue and injury.

Massage therapy offers one way to help you manage the physical effects of our busy lives on both our minds and our bodies. It need not only be a response to deal with pain or injury; it can also be an effective way of combatting day to day stress and managing your own health and wellbeing.

Massage therapy (also often referred to as bodywork or somatic therapy) is generally recognised as one of the oldest methods of healing in many cultures. The term refers to the various techniques applied to the muscles, tendons and other soft tissues of the body, to influence the overall health and wellbeing of the client. It encompasses a variety of massage styles, from relaxation to therapeutic or remedial techniques.

Why Knot Massage focusses on remedial massage, specialising in neuromuscular (deep tissue and trigger point) therapy to manipulate the soft tissues of the body to affect the muscular, skeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, nervous, and other systems of the body.

Treatment can be on a one-off basis, although it is unlikely that a one-time massage will solve a lifelong backache or other chronic pain. Massage therapy can also be tailored as part of a long term body maintenance or preventative care program. It can also effectively complement other treatments you may be receiving, for example from a chiropractor, physiotherapist or doctor.

After a successful corporate career encompassing trading, risk management and technology transfer, I established Why Knot in 2006, following a long held interest in assisting people to deal with both acute and chronic pain in their day to day lives.

I have a fundamental belief in the basic philosophy of vis medicatrix naturae, or the body’s natural ability to heal itself. I believe that there are powerful spiritual, emotional and physical healing benefits associated with human touch, and that much of the pain that we experience can be treated without the need for chemical intervention when mental awareness is increased and higher connectivity of body with mind is achieved.

My passion is to help my clients remove some of the physical barriers that restrict their ability to enjoy their lives to the full. I do this by providing an effective way of relieving the physical effects of acute or chronic injury, or long term stress and anxiety, in a non-threatening and comfortable environment.

I aim to provide my clients with safe and appropriate treatment at a high professional standard of service at all times.

My practice is located in Cremorne, close to the Neutral Bay, Mosman and Cremorne shopping precincts. It is also near major bus routes that run via Military Road.

My qualifications:

Diploma of Remedial Massage (A.C.N.T.)

Accredited member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society

I also hold university qualifications in risk management, applied finance and electrical engineering, and have taught Aikido, a Japanese martial art with a vision of victory as the unity of self and other. I am a dedicated practitioner of meditation.
